What's your personality type? | 3.5 minute read

Here's an easy way to find out

I recently took a personality test. I’ve taken a few of these over the years with the hopes of seeing personal traits articulated in a way that’ll help me better understand myself.

In the past, they’ve typically given me the same feedback. Outgoing. Enjoys creative pursuits. A bit chaotic. Recently, though, I was a little surprised by the results.

”Personality trait measures tend to be fairly stable during adulthood, psychologists have found,” according to Psychology Today. “Yet research does indicate that there is room for personal evolution, especially over long periods of time as an individual matures.”

Have I matured? Maybe in some ways.

This recent test told me my personality is that of a “Campaigner”. And it’s a little spooky how accurate it was.

”You may find yourself starting numerous projects with gusto, only to leave them unfinished when a new, more exciting prospect catches your eye.”

Yep.

”You have a strong sense of right and wrong, and you’re not afraid to stand up for what you believe in … however, [your idealism] can also lead to disappointment when the world doesn’t live up to your high standards.”

Oh yeah.

”You excel in roles that allow you to use your exceptional communication skills and tap into your boundless creativity … you may struggle with strict routines, hierarchies, or jobs that involve a lot of repetitive tasks.”

This is getting spooky.

The test went on to suggest a few occupations I might enjoy, such as writing and teaching (both of which I’ve done throughout my career) and being a therapist (something I’ve toyed with the idea of pursuing at various points in life).

While I wasn’t surprised by the results, the fact that it suggested I fall more toward the middle of the introvert/extravert scale (fun fact, the name for people like that is ambivert) was a change from previous tests that leaned heavily toward extraversion.

It also suggested I’m less assertive than I once was — maybe I’m chilling out a bit in my old(er) age — and lean more empathetic than previous tests claimed.

I enjoy these tests because they offer a new way of understanding ourselves. The results may or may not be surprising, but they do offer suggestions for how you view the world and navigate through it. In our own unique ways.

The pebble

Here’s where you can find out your personality type. It only takes a few minutes. We aren’t affiliated with them or anything — this is just my favourite of the various personality tests I’ve taken over the years.

The challenge

Yep, you guessed it. Find out your personality type. Maybe reflect on it a bit. Maybe have a friend or loved one also take the test and compare notes.
